South West Jets players based in Manjimup and Bridgetown have ways to stay sharp for the new season, training in non-traditional venues because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the resumption of community sport training, some venues that would cater for netball have remained closed, forcing the players to find other places to train.

Abbey Morgan, Abbey Hall, Kaeley Styles and Elycce Webb have been maintaining their netball skills under the watchful eye of coach Megan Burvill.

They all play in the Gold Industries Group WA Netball League for the South West Jets at various levels, with their season due to start on July 3.

“We’ve been using local Bridgetown parks and Manjimup parks to keep their fitness up,” Mrs Burvill said.

“A lot of the work that we’ve been doing has been around their fitness and individual ball skills, because we haven’t been able to share the ball.”

Mrs Burvill praised the players’ dedication to the sport, despite the season not having been confirmed at the time the players returned to training.

“Their dedication over the last month has been exceptional,” she said.

“With the uncertainty about whether the actual season was going to go ahead, the girls have done a great job in keeping themselves motivated and ready to play now that the season has been confirmed.”
