Chrissie crochet appeal

The Blackwood Creatives group is calling for donations to support its planned crocheted Christmas tree.

The group has commissioned plans for a 4.5m tall structure to support crocheted squares, comprising steel beams and chicken wire.

It will be fabricated in three separate pieces, to allow the structure to be assembled and dissembled easily.

To allow the tree frame project to be constructed, the group needs to raise $1000.

The group has created 1500 crocheted squares so far, half way to the 3000 required to cover the whole of the tree, but still welcomed volunteers to join the project, with the wool to crochet the squares being supplied.

Blackwood Creatives chairwoman Jenny Mountford said people weren’t sure whether the project would progress, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, but said they decided to push ahead.

“It’s going to be a lovely way of ending what has been a pretty tricky year, bringing people together again as a community,” she said.

Anyone who donates to the project will have their name inscribed on an honour board at the base of the tree.
