Bombers juniors win in all three contests

Warren-Blackwood Bombers youth football teams completed a stunning trifecta of victories across the three grades at the weekend.

Starting with a Friday twilight fixture, the girls Year 10-12 team displayed outstanding cohesion and teamwork to demolish arch rivals Bunbury.

From the outset, the Bombers were in blistering form, compiling seven goals in the first quarter.

Jasmine Gill’s willingness to work hard at centre half forward provided marking forward Lacey Holdsworth and smaller forward Mackayla Lowe plenty of opportunities to apply scoreboard pressure.

An outstanding game after overcoming early season injuries from Lauren Vuckovic provided the coaching staff even more flexibility.

The final score was Warren-Blackwood 14.5 (89) d Bunbury 4.7 (31).

Playing at home for the first time this season, the boys teams were able to put on a show for the spectators on Saturday.

The Year 11-12 team took to dismantling Busselton, with Tim Mayers and Josh Edwards hitting the scoreboard while Callum Sanders caused headaches for the opposition defence.

With a dominant midfield, the coaching staff were able to rotate endless ball winners through.

Returning from injury, Evan Whelan and Jamaine Weazel held together a tight defensive unit.

The adjusted score was Warren-Blackwood 11.15 (81) d Busselton White 3-3 (21).

The final game of the day was the Year 10 team taking on Preston Thunder.

The first quarter from the home team was champagne football.

Adam Edwards put in a best-on-ground performance, totally dominating the ruck and then moving forward to kick four goals.

Lex Wright, Beau Ryan and Ryan Tempra were all beneficiaries of the Bombers’ midfield dominance.

Memphis Mayers, Darcy Craven, Jack Ryan and Dylan Watkins were relentless in winning the ball across midfield and half back.

The amended score was Warren-Blackwood 14.1 (85) d Preston Thunder 4.1 (25).

This weekend’s games are the final round of fixtures and provide all teams with an opportunity to play finals football.

The Year 10-12 girls team play in a virtual second semi-final against Busselton at Busselton.

The victors will finish top of the table and progress straight into the grand final in a fortnight. The Year 10s play at Imperials on Saturday at noon.

A victory against lowly-ranked Collie should see them progress to the preliminary final the following week.

The Year 11-12 boys play at Imperials on Saturday at 2pm and will host Bunbury.

The Bombers will be looking to secure top spot, earning themselves a week off and a grand final appearance in a fortnight.
