‘Get out here you c**t’: Man allegedly fired shots into sister’s home over shed dispute on Easter Sunday

A man was heard screaming “get out here you c--t” while allegedly firing bullets into his sister’s home in a dispute about a shed on Easter Sunday, a court was told. Several shots were fired into an Albert St home in Corrimal, north of Wollongong’s CBD, at about 6.40pm on Sunday, police allege. Daniel Murray, 53, has been charged with a series of firearm offences over the alleged shooting, with a court told new details of the dispute that sparked the alleged incident. Mr Murray recently bought a property next door to his sister, with the court told his brother-in-law had agreed not to keep his things in a shed at one of the properties. However the man “reneged” on the promise and Mr Murray allegedly fired bullets into the home, Mr Murray’s Legal Aid lawyer Anthony Stewart argued. No one was injured. Mr Murray, who had been drinking that day, claims he knew nobody was home when he allegedly fired the shots, however this was challenged by both the magistrate and the police prosecutor. “In circumstances where a fair reading of those facts invites the court to conclude that Mr Murray was aware that his brother and sister were at the premises, and in response to a relatively benign argument about a shed, the conduct that came afterwards really deprives explanation, actually,” the magistrate told the court. A witness also allegedly heard Mr Murray say “get out here you c--t” while firing, the police prosecutor claimed. Mr Stewart maintained his client does not admit he knew his sister and brother-in-law were home. Mr Murray was ultimately denied bail after the magistrate found submissions about his health and lack of prior criminal record did not meet the threshold for release. The court was also told on Monday that Mr Murray had previously been renting from his sister “who he loves dearly” before he and his family bought the house next door. He is now working to pay off a $1m mortgage, Mr Stewart said. He is due to front Wollongong Local Court on April 9 over five firearm offences including firing a firearm at a house with disregard for safety and aggravated break and enter with intent while armed with a dangerous weapon.
