A simple text reminder from his partner turned into a $6.66 million windfall for a Mid West couple who are preparing to welcome their first child.

The couple in their 20s discovered they had landed the massive Saturday Lotto division one prize after buying a ticket for the Halloween draw on October 31.

The father-to-be had been given the familiar nudge to grab a ticket, with his partner reminding him to enter after the pair spotted the special draw.

They usually only buy tickets when there is a big prize up for grabs — and this time he made sure he didn’t forget.

“Thank goodness this wasn’t one of those times it slipped our mind,” the winning mum-to-be said.

The couple bought a Slikpik 25 ticket online but were left struggling to believe their luck when they checked the numbers late that night.

“We checked the website and just couldn’t believe it,” he said.

They eventually went to bed — but sleep was hard to come by as the reality of their win sank in.

Even then, the millions seemed almost too good to be true.

“When we did finally nod off, we woke up the next morning and had forgotten we’d won, it didn’t seem real,” he said.

The couple’s thoughts quickly turned to their growing family and the financial freedom the windfall would bring.

Rather than splashing out on extravagant purchases, they said the money would give them the freedom to make decisions without worrying about finances and create memories with their first child.

“We just feel so relaxed about the future now,” he said.

“We can make whatever decision is best for our family without worrying about finances and create some fond family holiday memories of our own.”

Despite suddenly becoming millionaires, neither has plans to give up work.

Their first celebration was also a decidedly modest affair — a home-cooked spaghetti bolognese.

“We had spaghetti bolognese for dinner and shared our favourite meal together,” she said.

The winning woman said she had always told her partner he was one in a million.

“I’ve always said he’s one in a million,” she said.

“Winning the Lottery is something you never expect to happen to you, so to be sharing this moment together feels incredibly special.

“We feel very fortunate.”
