The 40C heat and sunny day didn’t stop Santa Claus, a variety of mining trucks big and small, and community groups from celebrating during the 2023 GIFSA St Barbara’s Parade. Kalgoorlie’s main street was showered with lollies on Sunday morning, with the eager crowd keen to celebrate the festive season in the much-loved Kalgoorlie-Boulder way. It meant watching big mining vehicles — including Northern Star Resources’ CAT 793F haul truck — make their way down Hannan Street, as well as community groups and emergency services. A live band, Backyard Gold, even played a drive-by set during the celebrations. Santa Claus made an appearance with the Kalgoorlie fireys, who also cooled down the crowd with their firefighting hoses. The main showstopper, as is tradition, was the haul truck which made stops along Hannan Street to show off its tilted tray. The annual event aims to celebrate the contributions of the mining industry and community groups to the local area.
