With an ounce of luck, local trainer Peter Fernie’s four winners at Sunday’s Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club meeting could easily have been six.

The dominant force through the KBRC’s early meetings, Fernie swept the opening two races on the seven-event card with Brazen Empress ($4.40) and Wanna Cracker ($4.60).

Justin Robins-trained Whiskey Mac ($18) broke the sequence with Lisa Staples’ winning ride in race three over 1632m, but only after holding off the Fernie-trained Dublin Red ($3.30).

Esperance trainer Helen Harding went first and second with Lacie Ace ($3.60) and Yakyak ($15) in race four, before Fernie grabbed his third winner with So Likable ($4.80) over 1760m.

Fernie’s victory in the last event with Hidden Ruby ($2.15 favourite) was preceded by the success of the Trevor-Tasker-trained Counter Drive ($4.60) in the $24,000 Red Dust Electrical and Cooling Handicap (1400m).

Kick A Goal Son ($3.50) and Gluten Free ($4), both from the Fernie stable, ran second and third.

Natasha Faithfull rode three of Fernie’s four winners.

In last Saturday’s $100,000 SkyRacing.TV-Provincial Championship Series Final (1400m) at Belmont, the Paul Rowe-trained Californication ($3.70 favourite) finished third and the Fernie-trained Abloh ($5.50) was fifth.
