Eastern Goldfields Cricket Association’s A-section team have sensationally defeated Upper Great Southern by three runs in their match at the annual country week series in Perth.

Set 242 for victory on Monday, Upper Great Southern were restricted to 6-238 in their 60 overs, with EGCA taking crucial wickets in the final overs to secure the victory.

Blake Willis secured the key dismissal of Dylan Kirk, who had charged to 72 off 87 balls, and hit five fours and two sixes.

Kirk and Rodney Ford (36 not out off 34) had compiled a 55-run partnership to give Upper Great Southern a shot at victory, but Eastern Goldfields’ Toby Hickmott caught Kirk off Willis’ bowling, and then EGCA captain Trent Mais removed Dylan Brooks for a duck.

After they were dismissed for 130 in a loss to Albany on Sunday’s first day of the tournament, Eastern Goldfields hit back on Monday with a competitive 9-241.

The innings was anchored by openers Jace Reilly (82) and Michael Noble (46), who put on 66.

Reilly faced 138 balls and racked up six boundaries across 181 minutes.

But teenager Judd Kelman backed up the tenacity he showed on the opening day with a disciplined 51 from No.5, off 86 balls.

In similar fashion to the previous day, Kelman defied the opposition attack for more than two hours.

Glen Gascoyne compiled 22 off 18 balls while Bailey Parsons led the attack with 4-59.

Also in A-section on Monday, Esperance suffered a 73-run loss to Geraldton, being dismissed for 138 after Geraldton had earlier compiled 8-211 on half-centuries to Jay O’Brien (62) and Sam Crouch (51 not out).

Contesting E-section, the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Cricket Association enjoyed a two-wicket victory against Great Southern 2.

Dane Stewart led the way with 39 from 86 balls, with crucial lower-order contributions coming from Jason Biddle (21 off 32; four fours), and Jason Rout (22 off 55; two fours).

In the same division, Esperance 2 cruised to victory against Warren-Blackwood.
