Teams went head-to-head in grand finals last weekend to decide the winners of the Eastern Goldfields Squash Racquet Association’s 2022 autumn season.

The A-grade season saw Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Ben Conroy, Marcus Gorman and Di Watts triumph over Flex Industries’ Heddwyn Brahma, Belinda Gaulke, Wayne Astill and Henco Smit — with just 12 points separating them.

Conroy played up from his A2 grade in the absence of a A1 player, with both teams battling towards a nail-biting finish.

The B-grade competition came down to the wire, with just six points separating champion team Kalgoorlie-Boulder (Glenn Watts, Torren Deletti, Tahlia Tagliaferri and Oliver Cull) from BMGS (Colin Radici, Troy Cheshire, Sarah Marfatia and Carwyn Monck).

BMGS had previously won by just six points against Vissign Australia the previous Thursday to secure their place in the final.

Eastern Goldfields Squash Racquet Association committee member Peter Siebert said the grand finals saw some close competition between teams.

“This season was very competitive, the two teams that finished on top actually played in the final during the A grade,” he said.

Siebert said this season also saw eight new players join the club, with Will Gentsch putting on an impressive performance in A3, after jumping from B3 last season.

The winners of the consistency awards in A-grade were Brahma, Conroy, Gorman and Peter McManamon in A1 to A4 respectively, with A4 player Smit taking out the junior award.

The B-grade competition saw Aedann Bowden, Troy Cheshire, Vijay Moktar and Tim Murray respectively win the B1 to B4 consistency awards, with B4 player Kaelan Penn taking out the junior award.
