Shire of Harvey local election sees eight candidates throw their hat’s in the ring to fill six vacancies

With the Shire of Harvey local election set to be held on October 16, eight candidates have thrown their hat’s in the ring for six vacancies.

Here is a look at their candidate profiles -

Michelle Boylan -

I welcome the opportunity to represent the people of Harvey, having served as a councillor for the past four years.

After serving in WA Police, I continued working in community service to deliver pastoral care to students, families and staff in schools as regional manager for YouthCARE.

Importantly, 15 years ago we chose Harvey to raise our family. I bring an understanding of the community with strong skills in business and teamwork. I am experienced in building relationships in all areas. My passion is for children, families and aged care.

I advocate for crime prevention, strong families, improved local services, upgrading community centres, local parks, playgrounds and environmental services.

I will continue to strive to ensure that local concerns are addressed.

Michelle Campbell -

My first term on council has been a very humbling and rewarding experience.

I grew up in Australind, served in the Army and semi-retired back here (Harvey) with my family.

I am involved in a number of community groups and am a council delegate on various committees.

My key interests include, but are not limited to, advocating for our youth, recognition and supporting our volunteers and community groups and ensuring the infrastructure development continues.

I am an individual of strong will, fairness and someone who highly values integrity.

The Shire has some significant projects and strategies moving forward.

I will continue to work hard in order to see these projects to fruition.

Joe Capogreco -

This election vote for Joe Capogreco. I was born in Harvey and I am passionate about the future growth of our community.

I will communicate your views and help shape local decisions, as chair of Harvey Mainstreet I have developed many interests including residential land for young families, home and care for our ageing community, security of our medical and education facilities including the development of industry for the promotion of jobs for working families.

The vast tourism and lifestyle opportunities that are at our reach need to be explored and utilised to create more jobs.

I will listen to what the ratepayers’ needs are and endeavour to maintain and help build our shire.

I will be your representative within the Harvey council and work hard with you to achieve outcomes to benefit all.

Wendy Dickinson -

If re-elected as a councillor I will be representing the whole Shire, listening to your concerns and enduring to find solutions to problems.

Heritage, tourism and environmental issues are important to me as well as agriculture and industry to progress the Shire.

I’ve a broad understanding of the Shire having worked in the agricultural, business, retail and tourism sectors.

Apart from four years in Europe, I have spent my whole life in this Shire — being born in Harvey, educated at Roelands Primary School and later at the Harvey High School.

I have two adult children and a FIFO husband and now live at Mornington.

I have always been in numerous community groups and currently am president of Harvey History Online.

Paul Gillett -

I am pleased to nominate again for the Shire of Harvey council in 2021.

I have 17 years of local government experience and have been a Shire of Harvey councillor since 2017.

Over the past two years as Shire president, I have been heavily involved in the development of some exciting plans with a focus on youth, arts and culture, community safety and crime prevention, access and inclusion and most recently, early years.

It is important that we maintain our roads, footpaths, recreation and community facilities.

I believe the Shire has an exciting future as we work together to make this the most liveable community in the South West.

The Shire is a great place to live and I believe I can deliver on the best interests of our community.

James Junio -

My name is James Junio, a devoted husband to Diana Dagostino, who was born in Harvey.

I have two daughters — Grace, who studies at Our Lady of Mercy, and Judith who is in Year 6 at St Anne’s — we moved to Harvey nine years ago and were embraced by the community.

Our young family was incredibly supported in countless ways.

I fully understand the value of community groups, churches, CRCs, libraries and sports clubs who provide mateship and support.

To give back, I served as president of the Harvey Filipino Community for three years, member of the Pastoral Council for seven years, volunteer at the Harvey Community Dinner and Elijah House.

I have 20 years experience as a Youth Worker and presently work in residential care.

Dakota Krispyn -

My name is Dakota Krispyn, I am 26 years old and have over five years of business ownership in Treendale.

This has given me the skills required to understand all points of view, it has allowed me to communicate with all sectors of the community and to promote that voice within the council.

I think the most valuable change we can make as a shire is to ensure we strive for perfection.

With improved communication within the community my aim will be to assist increased efficiency and minimise frustrations by being transparent and equal to all areas within the shire.

I am passionate about youth, and youth leadership, I have fully researched what is required of me to fulfil this role and to be your voice within council.

I will put 110 per cent of my efforts into helping our community. Thank you for voting.

Tristan Payne -

As a local of 27 years, I feel the best part of running for council is having the opportunity to be a voice for our community.

I have listened to the hopes, dreams, and frustrations residents have for our towns, and I sincerely want to help make things even better.

My focus on others and my sincere desire to connect will add an accessible component to our council.

I am also very passionate about men's health and local health issues.

I believe in being the voice of our community and I want our unique towns to stay beautiful and always maintain the character of my beloved home.

As a local community member, husband, and volunteer, my life is woven into the fabric of my hometown Shire.

I offer a depth of history and an inspiring vision for the future of Harvey and the surrounding communities.
