Stellar Moon’s debut album tour comes to Great Southern alongside The Belle Miners and Madmaxsan
To celebrate the launch of her debut album PHASES, First Nations Nykina musician Monique Le Lievre, better known by her stage name Stellar Moon, will be performing two shows across two nights in the Great Southern.
She will be joined by Australian-Canadian folk-pop band The Belle Miners for her first show in Porongurup on Thursday, March 7, and by local band Madmaxsan on Friday, March 8, at the Stirling Club in Albany.
The album has been a labour of love for the past several years, with the COVID-19 pandemic causing delays.
Moon says she’s excited to finally share the album, which will officially launch at her Porongurup show on Thursday night.
“I feel really proud of the album,” she said.
Songs on the album include Out of the Dark and Still Tea, with a range of sounds from funk-rock to Motown-inspired and even a little bit of “gospel music-esque” in her words.
Moon said a standout song on the album was Mundjarra, which means people in the Nykina language.
“It was one of the first songs I added Nykina language to, so it holds a special place for me,” she said.
Moon said she was inspired to learn the language of her people after teaching children in the Kimberley Yawuru as a music teacher.
Tickets to both shows are still available.
