The annual Kalgan Giant Pumpkin Fair is back again this Saturday, a celebration of all things pumpkin.

Locals have been nurturing their pumpkins for months ahead of the fair and no one is more excited for the big weigh-in than three-year-old Mariska Upton.

This will be Mariska’s third year as an entrant in the festival.

Her mother, Nicole Bail, said Mariska planted her pumpkin in September and had been watering and fertilising it ever since.

“She absolutely loves it. The festival is good for the kids. It gets them out and about and in the garden,” she said.

“Her pumpkin last year was 22kg and this year I think it will weigh in around 60kg.

“She shows everyone who comes around. She’s very proud of her pumpkin.”

Mariska said she could not wait to share her pumpkin with the family after the festival.

The festivities start at 9am at the Lower Kalgan Hall.
