Scouts clean up Katanning road for Clean Up Australia Day

Clean Up Australia Day was approached by young Katanning Scouts last Wednesday with some hesitancy.
Initially reluctant to pick up the trash, even with gloves on, the young scouts soon turned competitive and made a competition among themselves to find the oddest trash.
Thirty years on after the idea first took place and was cemented as a national environmental movement, the Katanning scouts continued the effort in their local community on March 8.
The scouts aged 11-15 returned to Quarrell Road after noticing the amount of rubbish dumped along it in November.
According to the scouts, one of the oddest things they found was half a canoe.
Other odd finds included a box of shoes, a broken windshield, broken furniture, bricks, and some old guttering.
Supervised by scout leader Mark Sander the scouts cleared a stretch of Quarrell Road in just over an hour, filling up their new trailer recently donated.
“As a parent and scout leader, I was really proud of what the Scouts achieved this week.
“Showing the satisfaction that community service can bring, while making our world a better place is a core tenant of Scouting,” said Mr Sander.
Not to be overlooked, the Katanning joey scouts were also out and about to help clean up Katanning, collecting out of Katanning Creek.
