Schools showcase skills at carnival

The Great Southern Netball Region held its annual Bendigo Community Bank’s Primary School Netball Carnival in Katanning last weekend.

Nineteen schools participated in the carnival which made a total of 38 teams. Multiple games were played during the day across five divisions which included boys and girls teams.

The carnival was held at the Katanning Leisure Centre where games were played on indoor and outdoor courts. Even though the rain was pouring all day, players were able to stay warm on and off the court and showcased some outstanding netball games.

The Year 6 Girls Great Southern Grammar team beat Mt Barker Community College, nine goals to three.

The Year 6 Boys Bethel Christian School 1 took home the shield as they defeated Spencer Park Primary School 16 goals to three.

The two final contenders from the Year 6 mixed division were Braeside Primary School and Mount Barker Community College which was a repeat of last year’s final. This year, the tables turned with Mount Barker coming away with the win six goals to three.

The final two contenders from the Year 5/6 girls divisions were Katanning Primary School who defeated Yakamia Primary School Green team 11 goals to five.

The Year 5/6 mixed divisions Denmark Primary School took on the Jerramungup Gold on their first time entering a mixed team. Denmark claimed the win over Jerramungup 17 goals to seven.

The Great Southern Netball Region thanked their sponsors and everyone who participated on the day.
