Police probe commercial fires

Tayler NealeAlbany Advertiser

Police are investigating two fires which were lit in close succession at two Albany shops this afternoon.

The fires started at about 2:15pm on Tuesday in toilets at the Albany Plaza shopping centre and nearby Hungry Jacks restaurant on Lockyer Avenue.

Albany Fire Station officer Greg Marshall said crews responded quickly.

“The plaza had been evacuated,” he said.

“there was a fair bit of smoke clogging up that end of the building.

“While we were dealing with that we got a report that someone had lit a fire in the Hungry Jacks toilet cubicle”
