Eco Week puts focus on living more sustainably

Katanning Landcare is hosting a month of events filled with festivities and educational sessions to educate local communities about sustainable living during Eco Week.

Landcare officer Andrea Salmond said this year’s Eco Week theme is “out of the bin”.

“It’s about waste reduction in your everyday life — from farming to gardening,” she said.

“All events will connect backs to that eco message of ‘out of the bin’.”

Guest speakers such as Lindsay Miles — who recently spoke about “the non-disposable life” at TEDx Perth — opened Eco Week last weekend and taught locals about issues surrounding the plastic packaging of food.

Famous nature lover Eric McCrum will also visit the region to host an event and teach locals about wildlife and the importance of protecting the environment.

The documentary Bag It The Movie! Is Your Life Too Plastic? will also be running this month as part of Eco Week, and anyone can attend for a gold coin donation.

Katanning Landcare will be hosting up to 30 events for Eco Week, which started on Saturday, and events will run well beyond a week to October 27.
