Double blessing ready for the start of the school year
Carrying backpacks almost as big as themselves, twins Jai and Malcolm Roberts jumped for joy at the start of school when classes resumed yesterday.
Across the State close to half a million children from kindergarten to Year 12 were back in the classroom for the start of the 2016 school year.
Among a crowd of teary and nervous parents, shiny new sneakers and clean shirts the seven-year-olds said they were excited to start the school year.
Eldest brother by two minutes, Malcolm, said he was eager to get back in the classroom, but mostly for the opportunity to play — especially his favourite sport basketball. Jai said he was excited to see his friends, play some cricket and meet their new teacher.
About 540 students from pre-primary to Year 6 started the school year at Mt Lockyer Primary School alongside Jai and Malcolm. Principal Maxine Augustson said the school year began well with everything running to plan.
“Everything has ticked along smoothly … any tears were from the parents,” she said.
“The kids were very excited.”
