Mt Barker produced their best win under new coach Shane Thompson, after edging out defending premiers North Albany in a gripping contest at Sounness Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulls had already notched wins against Denmark-Walpole, Albany and Railways in 2016 but this was by far their best victory as they came from four points down at three quarter time to notch a 13.11 (89) to 13.6 (84) result.

Rugged midfielder Luke St Jack led the way for the home side with a plethora of possessions and two goals from the midfielder while gun recruits Daniel Dalby, Nic Chidgzey and Tyron Miller were all terrific.

Ryan Ballard booted four goals and was well supported by captain Sam Lehmann with three of his own.

The Kangas controlled the game early on and led by 13 points at quarter time before the Bulls piled on six goals to two in the second.

The visitors grabbed the lead back with a six goal third period but despite the best efforts of Alec Haskins, Adam Ditchburn and Luke Cameron they suffered their second loss of the year.

Small forward Doug Roberts kicked four majors while Sean Plaisted Medal leader Daniel Parker added three.

In the other Saturday fixture an inaccurate Denmark-Walpole came away with a 91-point win against the Sharks at McLean Park.

Kicking 15 points in the first half, the Magpies eventually settled after the main break to win 17.23 (125) to 5.4 (34).

Kaden King-Davies managed three goals swinging between the midfield and forward line while Shayne Zanetti bagged five goals, the Magpies also got plenty of run out of Ethan Burton and Matt Bondini.

For the Sharks, Jack Banks was named best on ground as part of the Talk To A Mate Round and Rick Wallis was again dominant in the ruck all day.

Jordan Rolt received a red card in the third quarter for striking and will face the tribunal this week.

Meanwhile this afternoon Royals moved two games clear on top of the GSFL ladder after grinding out a tough 26-point win over arch-rival Railways at Tigerland.

A four-goal final term was enough to edge clear of the dogged home side who challenged consistently throughout but failed to take the lead since booting the opening goal of the match.

The Lions welcomed back former Collingwood rookie Brenden Abbott for his first match for his former club since 2013 but Jayson Ford proved the most dangerous forward on the ground booting three clever goals in the second term.
