Tambellup make statement with emphatic win over Wanderers in Great Southern Cricket Association

A dominant all-round display from Tambellup guided them to a season-defining win over rivals Wanderers in round 14 of the Great Southern Cricket Association season on Saturday. The match, played at Quartermaine Oval, means Tambellup have now secured third spot ahead of the final round of the regular season. Nathan Willmott was the star with the bat, smashing 74 off 58 balls with seven fours, and he had plenty of contributions from his teammates. Connor Hawkins and Flynn Cristinelli put on 71 for the opening stand before Brock Green removed the latter for 34. He picked up Hawkins’ wicket shortly after. Lewis Miller (6) and Devon Cristinelli (35) added 60 to take their side past 150 but Miller was caught off the bowling of Tyron Pinney. Tambellup continued to score patiently before Nathan Willmott finally fell in the 39th over on 4-188. Wanderers took two more wickets but Tambellup’s steady innings guided them to 6-224 at the conclusion of their 45 overs. Green (2-45) and Dean Pinney (2-39) finished as the only multiple wicket takers for Wanderers. The Wanderers were in all sorts of strife from the beginning of their chase, with Trevor Parminter (0), Green (7), Toby Quartermaine (8) and Tyron Pinney (0) all dismissed inside eight overs. Ryan Sinclair (9) and Tuhiway McRoberts (4) shared in a 17-run stand before the latter was removed by Matthew Lamont. Wanderers lost 4-14 at the end to be skittled for a paltry 48. The dominant bowling display was spearheaded by Nathan Willmott (3-15), while Hawkins (2-12) and Lamont (2-11) also snared vital wickets. Despite the loss, the Wanderers will still play finals as they are well clear in fourth place in the GSCA competition. Kendenup confirmed a top-two finish with a comprehensive nine-wicket win over bottom side Australs. Kendenup were set 112 to win by Australs after batting efforts from Brad Garstone (37), Andrew Gibbons (18) and James Douglas (19) in the first innings. Clinton Gilbert (3-8) and Arthur Liddiard (3-14) dominated with the ball to have Australs all out for 111. An 86-run stand from Cameron Walsh and Clinton Gilbert had the game all but sewn up before Garstone snared the latter for 63 after he belted nine fours. Kendenup reached their required target in the 18th over.
