Piesse Park’s new amphitheatre stage is taking shape, ready to welcome musicians at next year’s Katanning Concert in the Park on February 6.

The community hotspot is in the midst of a transformation, with a new path network, botanic garden, nature-based playground and dog exercise area on its way.

In May, Shire of Katanning chief executive Julian Murphy said the works were on track to finish before the end of September.

The amphitheatre stage will accommodate lighting, power and sound to take local concerts to new heights.

Katanning Concert in the Park organiser and Lions Club member Doug Cherry said the team was excited to see two bands take the stage in February.

A bushfire forced the cancellation of the fifth Concert in the Park in February, hours before Perth band Landslide were set to perform.

“There was one band that we had for two years which was Murphy’s Lore and they were very keen to come back and play on the new venue,” he said. “Landslide was the band who cancelled because of the fire last year and were also keen to come back and complete their commitment.”

Mr Cherry said the redevelopment was coming together well.

“In previous years we have done a bit of watering to keep a bit of grass growing, but now it is being fully reticulated,” he said.

“So by then with a bit of fertiliser and a bit of care and maintenance there will be a nice lawned area there for everyone to sit and enjoy.

“The other part that is looking magic is the paths around the rest of the lake.

“Landcare have done an excellent job establishing plants there too.”
