Perth Symphony Orchestra bringing ‘A Quartet Gone Rogue’ to the agricultural town of Borden

The small agricultural community of Borden is set to host an unusual orchestral performance from the big city.

The Perth Symphony Orchestra is bringing its show S.T.R.I.N.G.S: A Quartet Gone Rogue to the Borden Pavilion on March 24.

The 50-minute performance will see the classical music of Beethoven and Mozart mixed with reinterpretations of modern hits from artists such as Nirvana and Britney Spears.

Borden Pavilion coordinator Pip Moir said the performances would provide a contrast from the sport and agriculture focused activities which generally make up the town’s cultural scene.

“People want to turn up to an event, eat, drink and be entertained, without feeling like they need to volunteer or contribute in some way,” she said.

“It’s time for something a little more engaging where people can just relax and enjoy themselves and experience something new, like people in big cities can do every night of the week.”

Organisers say the concert will have something for everyone, with a mix of classical, rock, pop, electronic and jazz music and banter between musicians bringing the music to life in a humorous way.

The performances have been made possible thanks to a $15,000 grant from Lotterywest.

Doors open at 6pm, with the performance starting at 8pm.

Buses to the event will be available from Gnowangerup and along the Chester Pass and Borden-Bremer Bay roads for $15 per person.
