Defending Ongerup Football Association premiers Newdegate recaptured their winning ways following last week’s disappointing loss by defeating Jerramungup by 18 points on Saturday.

The Lions’ season has been marred by inaccurate goal-kicking having booted more behinds than goals in their last three outings.

However despite their goal-kicking woes, the Lions notched an important 9.11 (65) to 6.11 (47) win over the Eagles at home to stay in touch with the top three.

After leading by less than a kick at quarter time, the Lions booted five second-quarter goals to extend their lead out to 22 points at the long break.

The two sides jostled for superiority throughout the second half but traded goals for the remainder of the encounter.

Lachlan Maples, Dean Rintoul and Durak Tucker were pivotal for the hosts while Jarrad Offer (four goals) and Chris Wollaston (two) were their main avenues to goal.

Caleb Keley was a standout performer for the visitors booting five goals while Aaron Winters and Wade Brown were also key contributors.

In the other league fixture, Gnowangerup’s blistering start to the season continued after beating Boxwood Hill by 42 points to remain undefeated through the opening six games of the season.

The Bulldogs conceded just one point in the second half while booting four majors on their way to an impressive 10.6 (66) to 3.6 (24) victory at Boxwood Hill.

After being held goalless last week, Bulldogs star forward Connor Smallwood booted four majors, marking the fifth occasion this season he has booted a bag of four or more.

Finn Synnot, Ben Bungey and Will Gaze were brilliant for the visitors while Tyler Caldwell also booted four majors.

Samuel Bertola, Hayden Richter, Corey Nelson and Bradley Joyce toiled hard for the hosts in a tough day against a red-hot Bulldogs side.
