Katanning speedway star Kye Blight has tuned up for his WA title defence in perfect fashion, claiming the Legends Night feature race at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday.

In the last round of racing before the WA Late Model Title next month, Blight started from pole position and was challenged early on before he powered away to win the race in honour of Stan Starcevich.

After a heat win and a second place in his other qualifier, Blight started the 30-lap feature race on pole position and survived an early battle with Warren Oldfield and Jay Cardy.

On lap 13 Blight got tangled with a lapped car but he was able to continue and led away the restart.

It was smooth sailing for the Katanning-raised competitor from that point on, as he coasted to his 12th Perth Motorplex feature race win.

Blight, also the current Australian champion, crossed the line 6.534sec. ahead of Craig Vosbergen and Paul Stubber to win the event that also doubled as round eight of the Pro Dirt Series.

Blight, right, moved up to 11th on the Pro Dirt Series points standings with 610 points. Warren Oldfield is in the lead with 867. Late model racing in WA will now take a break as drivers and teams prepare for the WA Title at the Motorplex on March 13.

Blight will be hoping to successfully defend his crown at that event and continue his hot run of form at the banked venue.
