A Katanning man has allegedly been caught trying to send an indecent image of himself to an underage girl after a police officer intercepted the photo by posing as a juvenile. Callum Wade Tucker, 22, appeared in Albany Magistrate’s Court on Friday, March 12, after he was arrested on charges related to exposing a child to indecent matter. Mr Tucker has been charged with one count of intending to expose a child to indecent matter after an alleged offence in Katanning on March 2. It is alleged a police officer posed as a juvenile and intercepted the material. Mr Tucker has also been accused of using an electronic device to send an indecent photo of his penis to an underage girl in Dumbleyung in 2019. That offence can attract a sentence of up to five years in prison. The girl was 14 at the time. After he was arrested on March 12, Mr Tucker told Albany Magistrate’s Court he wished to apply for bail. Police prosecutor Sgt Mike Russell opposed the bail application. However, Magistrate Dianne Scaddan described the prosecution’s submission as “unreasonable” and granted Mr Tucker bail subject to several conditions. Ms Scaddan prohibited Mr Tucker from contacting the alleged victim, and banned him from having unsupervised access to children. She told him he could not use any electronic communication, either through the internet or otherwise, to interact with children. He is also required to live only at his home and to report to Katanning Police Station each week. Mr Tucker is due to appear in Katanning Magistrate’s Court on April 6.
