It’s boogie time again for kids in Katanning on the eve of the first Katanning Blue Light Disco since the onset of COVID-19.

The disco theme is Christmas — and children are encouraged to get into the spirit of the season and wear something festive.

Secretary of the Katanning and Kojonup Blue Light Disco Association Matt Collis said it was good for kids to have a positive interaction with police.

“We usually try to run four or five discos here in Katanning a year but this year due to COVID-19 we have only had one other disco this year,” he said.

“For me, other than hopefully to have a great night, I’d say it’s important that all of the kids see the police are human, to see them dancing on the dance floor in uniform, to see they are approachable and to build a positive interaction with the police.

“Blue Light Discos are held due to the work of the volunteers — some of whom have been helping out literally for many years — and the police to give our kids and youths a night out of fun and dancing, to give them something to do.”

Mr Collis said it was not out of the question that there could be a special visitor dropping by for the fun.

The disco runs from 6.30pm-8.30pm this Friday at the Katanning Town Hall. Entry is free for children aged 0-4 and $3 for children aged 5-17.

There will also be a canteen at the event.
