Haiden Schloithe and Pingelly’s Tom Blechynden help get South Fremantle home in a thriller

Upper Great Southern duo Haiden Schloithe and Tom Blechynden helped South Fremantle move a step closer to another WAFL grand final after a thrilling one-point win over Claremont in the qualifying final on Saturday.

The two grand finalists from last season played out another epic match and the Bulldogs hung on with Tigers co-captain Jared Hardisty missing a set shot after the siren.

The Bulldogs, who are chasing back-to-back league flags, will now face minor premiers Subiaco in the second semifinal this Saturday and the winner will progress to the grand final at Optus Stadium next month.

Schloithe, a Katanning product, was named in the Bulldogs best in the 9.11 (65) to 9.10 (64) victory.

The midfielder collected 22 disposals, four marks, five tackles and kicked a goal while sending the ball inside his forward 50 six times.

Pingelly’s Blechynden was also a vital contributor in the triumph finishing with 20 possessions, eight tackles, four marks, five inside-50s and a goal.
