Katanning police arrest wanted man Billy-Jack Williams in relation to string of domestic violence offences

Katanning police arrested Billy-Jack Williams on Friday afternoon for a string of alleged domestic violence offences. The arrest came after a Facebook post from Great Southern police on Friday morning calling for public assistance to locate Mr Williams. Katanning officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Carlos Correia said they found Mr Williams hiding on a property after receiving public information on his whereabouts. Mr Williams appeared in Perth Magistrates Court via video link from Albany Magistrates Court on Saturday. He is facing two counts of impeding another person’s normal breathing or blood circulation by applying pressure to the neck, unlawful assault causing grievous bodily harm, and being armed or pretending to be armed in a way that may cause fear and criminal damage. Mr Williams is the first person from the Great Southern declared a serial domestic violence offender under the new legislation and will face harsher penalties if convicted. Serial family violence offender declarations were introduced on January 1, allowing courts to make the declaration against anyone who commits three or more acts of family violence in a 10-year period. Mr Williams was remanded in custody and appear in Albany Magistrates Court on August 31.
