Tambellup bushfire downgraded to an advice alert with blaze contained and controlled

UPDATE: 5.50pm — A bushfire alert for the Great Southern town of Tambellup has been downgraded to an advice after it reached an emergency warning level earlier on Thursday. At 12.50pm on Thursday, The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued an emergency warning for people in the Tambellup townsite east of Dartnall in the Shire of Broomehill-Tambellup. That alert was downgraded to a watch and act just before 2pm, then downgraded further to an advice about 5.45pm. The bushfire, which started near the Gnowangerup-Tambellup Road east of the town, is contained and controlled. It no longer poses a threat to lives and homes. Firefighters will continue patrolling the area and mopping up overnight. An evacuation centre at the Broomehill Recreation Complex at 77 Tieline Road has been closed. The blaze was one of at least 15 bushfires sparked on Thursday in an area bordered by Tambellup, Wagin, Lake Grace and Ongerup. For more updates, visit Emergency WA.
