Residents in parts of the city’s north-east have been ordered to evacuate as firefighters battle a suspicious out-of-control fire in Kalamunda.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued a bushfire emergency warning for locals bound by Bird Road, Panoramic Terrace, Ozone Terrace, Yorna Road and Alpine Road in the City of Kalamunda about 3.20pm on Thursday.

Residents have been told to evacuate in an easterly direction.

Nearly 20 DFES firefighting crews are at the scene fighting the inferno, with the Career Fire and Rescue Service, Parks and Wildlife Service, Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and Bush Fire Service volunteers also in attendance.

The blaze was first reported about 1.20pm on Thursday and is being treated as suspicious. It is not contained or controlled.

There have been no reports of injury or property damage.

“You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive. There is a threat to lives and homes,” a DFES spokesperson said.

“If the way is clear, leave now for a safer place. This may be with family or friends away from the area.

“Do not wait and see, leaving at the last minute could put your life in danger.

“If you cannot leave, you need to get ready to shelter in your home. You must shelter before the fire arrives, as the extreme heat will kill you before the flames reach you.”

A number of roads, including Holmes Road, between Maud Road and Wandoo Road, have been closed.

Motorists have been asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive safely.
