A house has been destroyed in an early-morning inferno that triggered a major emergency response in Perth’s north.

Emergency crews were called to Ballajura where a fire was surging through a residential home about 4am on Monday.

The house was completely taken over by fire by the time DFES crews arrived, with St John Ambulance also responding and treating a man in his 40s.

Two adults and two children were home at the time but managed to evacuate in time.

An electrical fault with a heater has been blamed for causing the fire.
