A woman crashed into the front doors of a locked laundromat because she was worried she set it alight when she earlier burned a tag off an item of clothing.

It was just before midnight on Wednesday when the bizarre saga unfolded at Quality Drycleaning & Laundromat on Caloundra Road in Clarkson, north of Perth.

A spokesperson says early inquiries suggest the driver, the only person in the car at the time, “accidentally set clothing alight while attempting to remove a tag”.

She removed the item from inside the shop, but became concerned a burning item remained inside the locked premises, police say.

Worried a big fire would break out, the woman drove her vehicle into the doors in an attempt to regain entry and prevent further fire damage.

Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.

A witness said the woman appeared to have been let go after police arrived.
