A serving WA Police officer has been stood down after allegedly assaulting his five-week-old baby.

The 30-year-old man was charged by detectives from the child abuse squad on Sunday after the baby was taken to Perth Children’s Hospital as a precaution.

He has been charged with aggravated common assault.

The officer has been stood down from duty.

He is due to appear in Midland Magistrates Court on Thursday.
