A man has been arrested for a string of offences including rape with police alleging he used his job as a taxi driver to exploit women in Queensland's northwest.

Detectives have charged the 56 year old with serious domestic violence offences after a three-month investigation in Mount Isa.

"It will be alleged the man used his employment as a taxi driver to exploit a number of vulnerable female victims throughout the Mount Isa community," a Queensland Police statement said.

After launching the investigation in October, detectives along with the Mount Isa Child Protection and Investigation Unit and local police executed a search warrant and seized "documentation and digital evidence" at a residential address on January 5.

The Mount Isa man was charged with one count of rape, choking and common assault, all domestic violence offences.

He was also charged with one count of animal cruelty, possessing child exploitation material and using a carriage service to menace/harass.

"This arrest is the culmination of a months-long investigation and I would like to commend the investigators involved," Acting Detective Inspector Sean Wade said.

"The blatant exploitation of the most vulnerable members of our community is unacceptable and we will not tolerate it.

"I thank the community for the information provided, which assisted greatly in bringing about a successful resolution."

The man will appear in a Mount Isa court on March 14.
