Police public warning: Koondoola suspicious approach of a child at Butterworth Reserve

Police have issued a public warning as they investigate reports a stranger tried to lure a child away from basketball courts in Koondoola.
The boy was at Butterworth Reserve on Saturday afternoon when the stranger, who was also at the basketball court, attempted to lead him away.
Police said the boy first attempted to seek assistance from a nearby group, but was followed as he walked towards Waddington Crescent and through a laneway onto Gabell Way, before he managed to run away.
The stranger was described as about 18-years-old, of slim build with dark skin and with short, curly black hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt, shorts and black sneakers and had ear buds in his ears.
Child Abuse Squad detectives investigating the incident urged parents, carers, and community members to remain alert when children are in public places such as aquatic centres, playgrounds, and sporting venues.
