Perillup cannabis crop busted by Mount Barker and Denmark Police after bushland discovery

Another large-scale cannabis growing operation has been uncovered in remote bushland - this time in the Great Southern region. The crop was found this week in bushland by Mount Barker and Denmark Police. It’s understood the crop was reported to police after it was spotted from the air either by a plane or a helicopter, although police have not yet said who exactly made the initial report. Local police tweeted about the discovery on Thursday, saying they acted on information “from eyes in the sky.” A police spokeswoman confirmed officers seized 48 cannabis plants in the Perillup area, west of Mount Barker. Police officers were assisted by volunteer firefighters who were in the area fighting a bushfire, and who helped clear the area for police to get access to the hydroponic crop and dismantle it. It’s understood no arrests have been made and inquires into who might be behind the operation are ongoing. The Perillup cannabis crop is the latest to be found by police in recent weeks. Earlier this week detectives in Perth seized a huge amount of cannabis after raids on two Perth properties on Tuesday. Cannington detectives will allege they uncovered two grow houses in Belmont and Redcliffe. Two men have been charged in connection to the raids. The first grow house was found after detectives raided a Belmont home on Alfred Street on Tuesday morning. Almost 100 cannabis plants and 9kg of marijuana head material was allegedly found and seized. Police will allege that while they were carrying out their search, a man arrived at the property in a car. That prompted officers to carry out a second raid at a home on Victoria Road in Redcliffe, where police allegedly found 95 cannabis plants. Police will allege both homes had illegally tapped into the electricity grid to power the drug operations. Last month the tiny Wheatbelt community of Kokeby became the centrepiece of a major organised crime drug operation when police found 132kg of cannabis and more than 2000 plants ready for harvest. The major grow house on Bellrock Road was allegedly being run by five Mandarin-speaking men, who are now all facing serious charges of possessing and cultivating cannabis with intent to sell or supply. Kalgoorlie sushi bar owner Bing Xia faced court last week where it was alleged the value of that seizure was $14. million.
