Hamilton Hill shooting: Gunmen still on run as police hunt enters second day

The search for two men who fled the scene of a shooting in Hamilton Hill — which left a man with a gunshot wound to his stomach — was continuing on Monday morning.

The serious and organised crime division are continuing to seek information about the ordeal, which is being treated as an isolated incident and happened near the intersection of Yongka Road and Karda Way about 4.35am Sunday.

Police released CCTV footage showing four men meeting at a cul-de-sac.

Moments later, one man could be seen sprinting towards the end of the road and into adjacent bushland.

A second man was seen sprinting towards the bush as he is trailed by a third man, believed to be one of the gunmen.

A fourth man was seen following shortly behind.

Police said the investigation to locate two possible gunmen was continuing.

Det. Brian Connelly said on Syunday that the 37-year-old victim and the gunmen were likely known to each other.

He said there was no no ongoing threat to the public.

“It was a very short incident, it was over within a matter of seconds,” he said.

“We’re confident in saying that it is a targeted attack at one individual, and we’re treating it as such.”

Det. Connelly said there was nothing to suggest the shooting was related to outlaw motorcycle gangs or the tobacco wars.

He said the victim was accompanied by one person at the time of the shooting.

Witness India Forbes, who was visiting family on Yongka Road, said she heard the gunshot about 4am.

“I just heard a man shouting and then a very loud bang. I couldn’t get back to sleep, and then I think it was a woman shouting after that,” she said.

“I’m a mother of two little kids, so I do get woken up very easily, but it was loud enough to startle me.

“I briefly checked to make sure that our window was shut because my immediate reaction is to make sure that we’re safe, but I didn’t see anything.”

The victim was shot in the stomach and was receiving care at Royal Perth Hospital.

The victim fled across Forrest Street, past a large patch of dense bushland, towards Owen Place where he was located and given emergency first aid by a member of the public.
