Great Southern mum accused of trying to murder disabled daughter enters plea

A WA mum accused of trying to kill her severely-disabled daughter by giving her insulin has officially denied her guilt over the alleged plot. A trial date has finally been set for the 40-year-old mother, after she formally entered a not guilty plea to one count of attempted murder. The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faced the WA Supreme Court by video link on Thursday morning, where it was confirmed her criminal trial would be listed for May 1. She appeared alongside her lawyer, Anthony Eyers, who said he was still in the process of considering expert evidence, as well as a recorded interview his client took part in following her arrest. The woman, from the Great Southern region, is currently on bail on a home detention order. Her daughter — who suffers from a severe neurological disability — is understood to be in State care. Two days after the little girl was allegedly given the drug, police say her health deteriorated, prompting a relative to take her to a local medical facility, and then to Albany Health Campus where she was stabilised. She was then flown to Perth by the Royal Flying Doctor Service and transferred to Perth Children’s Hospital. The girl’s mother is due back in court in April.
