Coronavirus crisis: Anti-vaccination protesters stage rally outside Parliament House

Anti-vaccination protesters are confronting journalists outside Parliament House, saying “coercion is not choice”.

About 30 people have gathered near one of the building’s entrances, which is being guarded by police officers.

They are taking turns on a microphone, with one appearing to bizarrely link the death of ABC broadcaster Russell Woolf to the vaccine.

Mr Woolf died in his sleep on Tuesday night aged 56, prompting an outpouring of tributes.

Another gave a home recipe for the drug hydroxychloroquine using fruit peel.

Several of the protesters were wearing medical scrubs. One had the words “nurse, 15 years” scrawled on her shirt.

The peaceful demonstration comes after Mark McGowan received death threats last week when his mobile phone number and home address was shared on social media.

Health Minister Roger Cook on Tuesday used parliamentary privilege to accuse Liberal MP Nick Goiran of encouraging anti-vaxxers to threaten the Premier and his family.

Mr Goiran paid Facebook to promote a post that questioned the lawfulness of the McGowan Government’s vaccine mandate for more than one million WA workers.

The Shadow Attorney General strongly rejected Mr Cook’s “fabricated” accusations.

He said he was pro vaccination and encouraged people to discuss the matter confidentially with their doctor.
