City casual staff lose work

Jackson Lavell-LeeBusselton Dunsborough Times

The City of Busselton has stood down short-term and casual staff members amid the COVID-19 crisis.

The Times understands dozens of staff members, including Geographe Leisure Centre and Naturalist Community Centre employees, have been informed their services are no longer required.

However, a City of Busselton spokeswoman refused to confirm the exact number of job losses.

City of Busselton chief executive Mike Archer said the City was attempting to find former staff new opportunities for employment with local retailers.

“Staff unable to perform their normal tasks due to facility closures are undertaking important backlog work or being redeployed into other areas that will help the organisation and the community. Like all employers, we are doing our best to keep people working at this difficult time,” he said.
