Budding athletes and interested runners are being encouraged to experience a triathlon as the local Busselton club hosts a series of free events to ramp up numbers,

The Busselton Triathlon Club committee made the announcement ahead of its 30th anniversary after COVID-19 wreaked havoc on club memberships.

The series of events aims to encourage newbies and welcome not-so-experienced triathletes and people wanting to have a go at something, as well as the more experienced athletes, according to club president Cate Finlay.

“We are looking forward to a better and bigger season,” she said.

“(Our club) is approaching its 30th year, and with a lot of history under its belt, the club is hoping it continues for at least another 30 years.”

The events will involve cross-country, duathlons, aqua swims and short-course triathlons.

The Trystar program, due to start early next month for children between six and 12 years old, will run for eight weeks leading up to the December Ironman, and again in February next year. For more information, contact the club at busseltontriathlonclub@gmail.com.
