Animals and carers alike will be sporting smiles after the Bunbury Wildlife Park received a support grant of more than $30,000.

The funding came as part of Austrade’s Supporting Australia’s Exhibiting Zoos and Aquariums Program, which provides funding to eligible exhibiting zoos, wildlife parks and aquariums that feed and actively care for animals.

The funding will help the park with operating costs associated with caring for the animals including food, health care, maintenance of animal enclosures and nesting materials.

Bunbury Wildlife Park received an initial payment through the scheme in April and now the additional grant is a result of a 30 per cent reduction in turnover due to closure periods during the pandemic.

Park team leader Tanya-Marie Barbour said the grant and the support they received during the school holidays period were invaluable.

“We are very appreciative of the Austrade grant as it has helped tremendously throughout COVID, maintaining and servicing our enclosures,” she said.

“Our animals are happy and healthy.”
