Extra police sent to Broome to aid investigation after woman and young daughter were allegedly raped in their home

Extra police have been deployed to Broome to help search for a man detectives believe could assist with an investigation after a woman and her young daughter were allegedly raped in their home.

Broome Detectives have again called on the public for assistance in their search for Rami Johnathon Rahman, 36, in relation to an investigation into an alleged aggravated armed robbery and sexual assault that occurred between 3am and 6am on Thursday.

It is alleged an offender broke into an Old Broome property and made their way to the bedroom where a 30 year old woman and her daughter, who is aged under 13 years, were sleeping.

The offender allegedly threatened the pair with a weapon and raped them.

Inspector Rohan Ingles said he urged Mr Rahman to present himself to police immediately and anyone with information is urged to contact Broome Detectives and Crime Stoppers.

“We want to reassure the public that this matter is an urgent priority for Broome Detectives and we have called in additional resources from Perth to assist in locating Mr Rahman,” he said.

“These extra resources include additional detectives and an additional K-9 unit.

“The urgency is increasing. We certainly need to locate and speak with Mr Rahman and that is the absolute priority in this investigation.”

Inspector Ingles said the victims were “traumatised” but were doing the best they could under the circumstances.
