Body of missing man found off Sydney’s North Harbour after days of searching

The body of a man who went missing after a boat capsized off Sydney’s North Harbour last week has been found.

Fishermen found the body of the missing 49-year-old just before 10am Wednesday, following days of searching by emergency agencies.

Police with the Marine Area Command were told calls for help had been heard shortly before 4.50am on Saturday.

A 25-year-old man was rescued from the sea and taken to Little Manly Beach.

He told police he and a friend launched their boat from the Tunks Park boat ramp about 9pm on Friday, but the vessel capsized about 3am.

A large search of the area ensued, involving the Marine Area Command, local police, PolAir, Surf Life Saving NSW and the Westpac helicopter.

On Wednesday morning, police were called to Middle Harbour after reports two fishermen found a body in the water near Washaway Bay, Clontarf.

The body was recovered by the Marine Area Command and identified as that of the missing man.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
