Perth’s Australia Day fireworks will go ahead on Monday night, with the City of Perth confirming the show is still on despite earlier fears unseasonably cool and windy weather could force a last-minute cancellation.

A City of Perth spokesperson said the event team is “keeping a close eye on the weather as the afternoon progresses,” but at this stage, the fireworks and drone show will proceed as planned.

Langley Park will again be the prime vantage point for the sky show, with a packed schedule of free family-friendly fun on the ground and in the air from 3pm.

Visitors can catch cultural and educational short films on rotation, pick up free goodie bags, and enjoy live entertainment, including skydivers.

It’s expected to be a cool and slightly cloudy evening, with temperatures dropping to about 19C.

City of Perth Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds said Australia Day events were great for the city.

“Events like Australia Day not only bring West Australians together but also boost visitation and support local businesses right across the city,” Mr Reynolds said.

Adrenaline seekers can look forward to freestyle motocross and BMX stunt displays every half hour from 3.30pm to 7.15pm, showcasing some of Australia’s top extreme sports talent.

A multicultural zone is open all afternoon until 8pm, featuring Aboriginal arts and crafts workshops, along with dance performances from Vietnamese, Māori, Brazilian, African and other community groups.

Carnival rides and amusement stalls line the western end of the park, alongside interactive activities such as henna tattooing and Australian bushcraft demonstrations.

The skyshow finale starts at 8.30pm, when the skies above the Swan River will erupt in a dazzling 30-minute display combining fireworks and synchronised drone formations, backed by a narrated soundtrack.

For the best view, the City of Perth recommends watching from Langley Park or the Riverside Drive foreshore. The drone component is not designed to be viewed from South Perth or Kings Park, where audiences will miss key visual and audio elements of the show.
