Younger Albany Bayswater side net two first half goals to secure victory over Grammar Red in AJSA under-16s
Albany Bayswater and Grammar Red, are the two younger teams in the Albany Junior Soccer Association under-16s competition, and the latter started much brighter in their contest on Saturday, with Bayswater prevailing, 3-0.
Grammar started the round nine match strongly playing positive lines and pressing high up the field.
The positivity by Grammar left opportunities on the counter-attack for Bayswater, with Ehgu Mauw skipping past the defence and blazing over the crossbar.
Grammar started to fall deeper into Bayswater’s play.
That invited Bayswater forward and it was Lucas Maffei, who scored after a lofted shot slipped through the Grammar keeper’s hands in the 11th minute.
It was then all Bayswater for the next 10 minutes as Bank Corser doubled the lead.
Bayswater took their foot off the gas, however, and Grammar got back into the game just before the break, forcing a magnificent save from Bayswater’s Renior Nash approaching half-time.
Early in the second half Archie Simmonds scored Bayswater’s third and put the match beyond reach of Grammar, who went close a couple more times but were unable to get on the score sheet as Bayswater prevailed comfortably.
The two older Grammar and Bayswater teams played each other with the latter having far too much firepower for Grammar earning a valuable three points after a comfortable 9-2 win.
Polonia were too strong against Stirling Rangers winning 6-0.
