Works start on Barnesby Drive Link project to complete western zone of Centennial Park Sporting Precinct

The City of Albany has cleared 10 trees to make way for a road running from Barnesby Drive to the southern side of the Centennial Park Sporting Precinct. The Barnesby Drive Link project will connect the North Road/Barnesby Drive roundabout with the cricket carpark to the south and Graham Street. It is the final phase of construction in the western zone of the Centennial Park Sporting Precinct. City of Albany executive director infrastructure, development and environment Paul Camins said construction of the Barnesby Drive Link would start in November. “The Barnesby Drive Link is intended to connect North Road to Centennial Park west and provide better access to the Centennial Park Sporting Precinct facilities and the CBD,” he said. Mr Camins said 10 trees in the footprint of the new road alignment were removed in May to allow for its construction. “Following road construction, the City will be replanting a similar number of appropriate tree species in this location as part of the Barnesby Link Project,” he said. The public toilets at the site are set to be demolished in the next financial year. Mr Camins said the City would be liaising with user groups to determine if replacement toilets were necessary.
