Wolfe pack’s awesome foursome

Leading Albany trainer Steve Wolfe stamped his authority on the biggest race meeting of the Great Southern season, claiming four winners on the bumper 10-race card at Percy Spencer Racecourse on Sunday.

In 2012, Wolfe dominated the Albany Cup meeting with four victories, and he was able to replicate that performance again this year as smart youngsters War Jeune and Captivated Point saluted along with consistent type Jester Rock to go with Fitzpatrick Plate winner My Greek Boy.

The four wins shot Wolfe to 20 wins in the Great Southern Trainers’ Premiership, five clear of his nearest rival, Roy Rogers.

The biggest thrill for Wolfe on the day came in the $75,000 XXXX Gold Fitzpatrick Plate (1230m) when stable star My Greek Boy continued his brilliant record at the track, claiming the sprint feature in terrific style. Wolfe said there was also plenty of upside around promising four-year-olds War Jeune and Captivated Point.

“It’s been a terrific day for our team,” Wolfe said.

“All our stable staff do a fantastic job and the importance of (Peter) Hall and (Shaun) McGruddy to our stable makes such a difference.

“Captivated Point is ready to go in Perth, he is putting it all together. War Jeune, he’s a really nice staying type.”

Wolfe had four winners and five minor placings from 13 runners on the day, earning $102,000 in stake money.
