Wittenoom Cup Carnival hits a new high with record numbers set to play at the Albany Golf Club
The annual Wittenoom Cup Carnival begins on Saturday, with record numbers set to play at the Albany Golf Club across nine days.
The carnival has attracted a total of 620 golfers entered across multiple events at the Albany links course.
The carnival will culminate with the running of the major competitions, the Wittenoom Cup and the Brenda Wittenoom Open played on Saturday and Sunday, January 23 and 24.
Fields are at capacity over the nine-day carnival with 240-270 players taking part each day.
Both winners from last year are set to defend their titles in the 36-hole stroke competitions next week.
The Wittenoom Cup and Brenda Wittenoom Open are so popular about 10 reserves are waiting for a spot in the field.
Albany Golf Club general manager Dan Northcott said the carnival continued to grow in popularity.
“It is a fantastic result to have record numbers, and we are looking forward to nine days of good golf,” he said.
“We were originally worried that we wouldn’t have as many nominations because town is so busy and the lack of accommodation, but everyone got organised early and (they) are keen for the event.”
