It was suits and gowns for all as Southern Aboriginal Corporation hosted the 2022 NAIDOC Ball on Saturday night at Retravision Stadium. The evening was a celebration of the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Great Southern. SAC chief executive Asha Bhat said she was proud to host the inaugural NAIDOC Ball. “It was such a fun night,” she said. “Thank you to everyone who was part of this sensational event. “What an amazing community we have.” Four awards were presented: elder of the year, young person of the year, the community services excellence award, and a special award presented to a person or organisation that has represented the NAIDOC 2022 theme ‘Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!’. Aden Eades won elder of the year, Taleeah Woods won young person of the year, Garry Ryder won the community service excellence award and the special award was won by Headspace Albany.
