Wiggins puts in strong showing at nationals
Up-and-coming cyclist Emily Wiggins has returned home from the Australian Junior Road Nationals on the Gold Coast after a fourth-place finish.
Wiggins is no stranger to State and national events after representing WA four times previously.
The 14-year old was up against it, racing for first time in the under-17s category and coming fourth in 48km road race.
The race was cut short because of crashes in previous races.
Wiggins placed 15th in time trials and sixth in the criterium section.
Wiggins said she felt prepared going into the event.
“I felt good after being coached by Stuart Passmore,” she said.
“As a first year under-17, I was happy about my results against the other strong competitors.”
Between school and training, Wiggins said it was tough work.
“Training meant early starts throughout the school term,” she said.
“Without my family, parents and coach’s support I wouldn’t be able to pursue my goals,” she said.
